2014
Time travel. The future. The past. What is time? What is space? Are we human? Are we dancer? Does a tree falling in a forest make a sound, even if there’s no one around to hear it? And more importantly, does a man falling in a forest make a sound even if there are no trees around to hear it? Imagine a man — it could be someone you know, it might even be you. None of this matters. Does life matter? Does matter matter? Alright, enough of the questions – where were we?
Okay, one man, one normal man, one normal man just doing normal things like walking around, sitting down and sometimes eating food. Five days out of seven he went to work, and on the other two he didn’t go to work. Life wasn’t good, but it wasn’t exactly bad either — he had food and he had shelter, but deep in some hidden cubicle of his head nestled a slight feeling of disappointment.
Only a few years ago, 2014 still seemed like the distant future — some fantastical time when people talked on video phones, ate weird food and lived in virtual reality. And now, in 2014, all these things did happen, but why didn’t it feel fantastic? Surely the year 2014 shouldn’t be this dull?
The past didn’t look dull, and neither did the future, so why did he have to live in the boring bit when nothing ever happened? He went to sleep with the firm feeling that he was in the wrong era.
